NH Census Records

a guide to Family History!

As per the 2010 United States Census, the population of New Hampshire was counted as 1,316,470 (approx), an increase of 6.5% from the census of 2000.

The first New Hampshire Federal Census was taken in 1790 and since then it continued every ten years. The 1890 census schedules were destroyed in the 1921 warehouse fire but the 1890 NH Union Veterans and Widows records survived the tragedy and are often used for genealogy research. No state censuses exist for this state.

Looking into your family's past:

Many researchers begin the work of rediscovering family roots with census archive, as they believe census records to be the most detailed source of genealogy information. People use enumeration data to trace one's ancestors and information relating to them like their name, age and date of birth, marriage details, birth parents' names, home if owned or rented, if migrated then from where they came, etc. It helps to find missing relationship.
